Camera Crew Sent to Refugee Camps in Chad - Watch an Archived Broadcast
To increase awareness of the desperate situation in Darfur, DarfurGenocide.org members helped raise over $45,000 to send a camera crew to broadcast from refugee
camps in Chad. The team provided footage of the crisis to news and talk shows in the US and Europe throughout August. On August 25th in a "Global Town Hall Meeting", they did a live broadcast on the web where people from all over the world could see the situation on the ground for themselves and put questions to people in the camps. August 25th was declared a "National Day of Conscience" in the US. To show our solidarity with the people of Darfur
and to demand effective international action, we asked people to join
in a one day Hunger Strike. Over
3300 people from all 50 US states and around the world took this powerful, poignant action. Click

US Congress Declares Darfur "Genocide"
On July 22nd, just hours before they adjourned until September, the
US House of Representatives and US Senate passed resolutions designating
Darfur a "genocide" and calling on the US government to stop the killing,
including - if necessary - through intervention.

The massive lobbying from citizens groups and advocates helped make it happen. A huge
thank you to all of you in the US who either called your Congresspeople or
participated in the "die-in" in front of the White House on July 22nd. You
really made a difference!
These resolutions give us a powerful bipartisan mandate to push the US government to act..
This is a significant battle won, but it won't mean anything until we see real change on the ground to save lives. Unfortunately, the situation in Darfur is getting worse. Torrential rains have arrived, the Janjaweed are stepping up attacks, and the government is breaking up the refugee camps to scatter the starving, making them even more vulnerable and harder to reach with aid.
"Die-In" at the White House, July 22nd
We helped stage a spectacular "Die-In" at the White House on Thursday,
July 22nd. Hundreds of people lay down, as if dead, in front of the
President's Mansion powerfully reminding the US Government of the number
of people who are dying in Darfur each day.
Street theatre and moving speeches, from speakers including Rev. Walter
Fauntroy, accompanied the arresting site of protesters trying to draw
attention to the genocide by symbolically "stepping up" to represent
the lives of our brothers and sisters being killed in Sudan.
