Demand Peace and Justice in Darfur - "A New Sudan"

Petition:
We call upon our governments, the African Union and the United Nations to help bring peace and justice to Darfur by insisting that the Government of Sudan grant Darfur its fair share of political and economic resources through the upcoming peace talks. We further call on them to use the talks to help build "A New Sudan", a democratic, secular nation that respects all of its diverse religions, cultures and ethnicities.
There can be no peace without justice. The Government of Sudan was able to slaughter hundreds of thousands of Darfurians because it had systematically denied them the political and economic resources to control their own destiny. To honor the dead and bring lasting peace to Darfur we must correct this injustice. The upcoming peace talks offer the best opportunity to do so. But the international community must use its leverage over the Government of Sudan to force it to concede political and economic power to Darfur.
A just peace for Darfur should be seen as a key step in the process of building "A New Sudan", a democratic, secular nation that respects all of its diverse religions, cultures and ethnicities. Realising this goal would not only bring peace and justice to Darfur and give its people the security to start rebuilding their lives, it would also protect the other oppressed peoples in the South and East of Sudan and offer the prospect of lasting peace to a country ravaged by over 20 years of war.
